Roboleo -an interactive balance-game with a seeing robot (2004-05-02)

The princip of the robotsystem ROBOLEO is based on a gameidea, which derives from the balance-game Bamboleo. The gamedesk is put on a base with a spheric bit. On the desk are gaming pieces with different forms. They are arranged that the desk, according to their allocation, sets to a general slantingly balance. The robot plays interactive against an human player, whereas the pieces are taken rotational from the desk. That's why the balance condition changes and the desk moves to a new position. The one, who unbalances the desk, loses.

ROBOLEO is equipped with a CCD-camera and distance sensors to detect the gaming pieces. The camera detects the position of the gaming pieces in x- and y-way. For the spacial detection of all the pieces (Z-component) the declination of the desk has to be known. This is definded by the signals of two distance sensors, which are mounted below and detect the height of the desk at two points. Lately a game algorithm decides the appropriate piece.

The needful methods and techniques for the realization of ROBOLEO from the sectors of robot programming, image processing, optoelectronics, algorithms and system integration presents numerous further points for direct industrial applications. At this it is mostly thought of flexible scenarios of fabrication, where robots work with varying edge conditions.

That's how the robot sees the game:
